Fighting Poverty:
Over the same time period that other countries saw a growth in the amount of people being fed, The congo DR so the amount of people going hungry doubled between 1990 and 2004. I believe that the most important tools in the fight against poverty are giving people the opportunity to work for a living and allowing them the rights to business. The Congo DR currently has been rated as “Not free”, and one of the main contributions to this rating is the fact that the people have little to no business freedoms. Their economic rating is a 39 out of 100, which could also stand to improve if more local business and operations were brought into the region. The minerals exported from the congo seem to do very little for their economy, so establishing a better trade system may bring life into the economy as well. (This category should receive the most amount of money, since it is one of the most difficult problems to solve, and one of the more vital goals) (23%) of the amount received Gender Equality: (Should receive the second most because of the positive domino effect it will have on other goals) When women gain the ability to participate actively in society, it tends to help families, and the communities as a whole. Women are more likely to place care and attention on the children's well being, while men often care about instant gratification (alcohol , candy, prostitutes,etc.). With more practical uses of money and power, the maternal mortality rate, and the child mortality rate should also decrease. (15%) of the amount received Reduce child mortality: This will be directly impacted but the maternal health, gender equality, and combating disease MDGs. The government of the Congo DR spent only 5% of its money in 2011 on health care, which should be increase to at least 10%, if not more. (12%) of the money allocated here. Global Partnership: There are various countries, and the UN taking action in the Congo DR in an attempt to solve some of the major problems that this region is facing. (10%) Education: Primary education has improved since the start of the MDG program, but could still stand to be improved. There are still problems with the way that schooling is handled after the basic learning in primary school. (The amount of people attending colleges is very low) (9%) Maternal Health: With more money being spent on health care, and gender equality, there will be an increase in maternal health. (9%) of money allocated here. Environmental Stability: There is progress being made in this goal as well. The deforestation that threatened one the largest forests in the world has become much less of a concern, but the way that minerals and precious metals are harvested should still be closely regulated and maintained to ensure Environmental Sustainability (8%) of money allocated here. Combat HIV , AIDS: They have made much progress in this goal as well. Almost a quarter less people are infected with HIV/AIDS each year. If more money is spent on education and preventing the spread, as well as the treatment of these diseases, then the improvements should continue to occur. Overrall the Congo is not on track to meet all of its goals by 2015, but some of the more important goals should at least be achieved by then. (14%) |
